DURRAT AL BAHRAIN SUPPORTS BAHRAIN DOWN SYNDROME SOCIETY
Durrat Al Bahrain, the Kingdom’s largest planned luxury mixed-use residential, commercial and resort development, today announced that it has donated two 16 seat buses to the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society to enable the voluntary organisation to transport its clients to its Care Centre.
Established 11 years ago, the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society has championed the support of children and adults with Down Syndrome, as well as the education and training of specialist carers and teachers. The Society has been instrumental in educating the Bahraini community about Down’s, helping to overcome societal prejudice against the Syndrome. It has also been instrumental in changing education policy to ensure that children with Down Syndrome are entitled to participate in mainstream public education in Bahrain.
Jassim Al Jowder, CEO of Durrat Al Bahrain, said, “As much as Durrat Al Bahrain is about creating a new community for Bahrain, we believe it is our duty to also invest in the wider Bahraini community. We all have enormous admiration for the work that the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society does. In their 11 years, they have helped to change the perception of Down Syndrome, change education policy and ensure that Bahrain is now seen as a centre of excellence in the Arab world for the support of Down Syndrome. We are privileged to be able to help the Society with the donation of these two buses.”
Dr Mohamed Al Mannai, Director of the Bahrain Down Syndrome Care Centre, commented, “As an entirely voluntary organisation, our funding is dependent on donations from the private sector. With the support of Bahraini companies such as Durrat Al Bahrain, we have been able to develop initiatives that have put Bahrain on the map as a leading light in the support of Down Syndrome in the Arab world. With the creation of our Care Centre just over two years ago, we now have a central resource where we can offer care, support and training for those with Down Syndrome as well as their teachers and carers. With the donation of these two buses by Durrat Al Bahrain, our clients will now be able to get to the Care Centre much more easily, meaning we can offer our services more effectively to more people.”
